The story of Journey to the West is loosely based on the story of Xuan Zang, a scholar who traveled from Chang’an (where current Xi’An city resides) around the world. According to the poster, he traveled to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Burma, and India. While in India, he traveled from north to south to teach. He was viewed as a diplomat for China during Tang dynasty and received respect and welcome everywhere he went. This poster was likely a school educational poster in the 80s.
