Cultural Revolution Ballet - The White Hair Girl
During the Cultural Revolution, under Madam Mao (Jiang Qing)’s guidance, the country of China re-defined pop culture by reinventing Peking Opera and Ballet stories to include class struggle themes. This rare ballet play poster depicts a scene from the Revolutionary Ballet, The White Hair Girl. The title of the poster is “Red Sun Shines through the Yang Ge Zhuang.” The headline also says “Beloved Chairman Mao, People’s savior.” May 1973.
