| During the Cultural Revolution, under Madam Mao (Jiang Qing)’s guidance, the country of China re-defined pop culture by reinventing Peking Opera and Ballet stories to include class struggle themes. This rare ballet play poster depicts a scene from the Revolutionary Ballet, The Red Army Detachments. The title of the poster is “Red Sun Shines through the Yang Ge Zhuang.” The headline of the poster on the chalk board says “Only by saving the entire human race can the proletarian class free itself.” The poster shows the heroine of the ballet, Wu Qing Hua.
