| Unless you understand the fine prints of this poster, you would think these two women are posing suggestively for an interesting audience. But really, this was only an advertisement for the Shanghai Commercial Art Company. “Quality painting and printing services are provided at a discounted price” is the essence of the message. These two young women were models for the art company. Though the four larger letters of “Congratulations on a new beginning”, actually referred to the start of Shanghai Commercial Art Company, could also be interpreted as “congratulations on your new marriage”, which could easily cause puzzlement to the uninitiated.
